CALM Training - Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) is a course offered as part of the Texas Suicide Prevention Collaborative. CALM addresses the "HOW" of suicide prevention, rather than the "WHY". This training demonstrates research that shows how reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. This training covers who needs lethal means counseling and how to work with people at risk for suicide - and their families - to reduce access. Opportunities to work through case scenarios and practice lethal means counseling will be provided.

MEP Priority for Service: Turning Priorities into Action
This session is designed to provide timely guidance and support in meeting Title I, Part C Migrant Education Program (MEP) requirements related to Priority for Service (PFS) students. In alignment with MEP program guidelines, districts are required to provide services to PFS students and maintain appropriate local documentation. These one-hour open agenda sessions are a collaborative effort between the Region 13 Gifted and Talented Program Specialist and the Central Texas Advanced Academics Consortium (CTAAC). CTAAC is a district-led initiative created for the purpose of providing district-to-district support for the Gifted and Talented and Advanced Academics programs. This organization is currently led by Blake Haygood from Austin ISD. The organization meets a few times throughout the year to offer leaders the time and space to connect with each other and ask questions relevant to their program.

Safety Planning Intervention (SPI) is a 4-hour, virtual or in-person training for adults to learn how to collaboratively intervene with a person at risk for suicide in developing a safety plan. SPI is a brief, collaborative intervention that provides individuals with a specific set of coping strategies and resources to use at any time to mitigate acute suicide risk. MKV 404: The Network (Building Internal & External Partnerships)
This collaborative 1-hour virtual workshop explores how strong partnerships can strengthen support systems for students and families experiencing homelessness. Participants will learn strategies for building meaningful internal collaboration across campuses and departments while also developing effective community partnerships with shelters, nonprofits, food resources, mental health providers, and other local agencies. The session will highlight ways to improve communication, streamline referrals, and create a coordinated network of support that removes barriers and increases student success. Behavior Coach Endorsement Program 2026-27
Participants will explore core coaching frameworks such as The Coaching Habit, The Advice Trap, and The Art of Coaching, while developing their capacity to lead change in diverse school settings. Key topics include trauma-informed coaching, navigating difficult conversations, building and sustaining trust, data-informed support planning, and supporting both individuals and systems through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Behavior (MTSS-B). Through scenario-based learning, applied coaching rounds, and expert-facilitated sessions, participants will gain experience in coaching classroom management, functional behavior intervention planning, and schoolwide behavior support systems. The program culminates in a final exam and performance-based coaching assessment.

Safety Planning Intervention (SPI) Training
Safety Planning Intervention (SPI) is a 4-hour, virtual or in-person training for adults to learn how to collaboratively intervene with a person at risk for suicide in developing a safety plan. SPI is a brief, collaborative intervention that provides individuals with a specific set of coping strategies and resources to use at any time to mitigate acute suicide risk. The Leadership Forum is an opportunity for Gifted/Talented and Advanced Academics leaders to connect and support each other virtually throughout the year. These one-hour open agenda sessions are a collaborative effort between the Region 13 Gifted and Talented Program Specialist and the Central Texas Advanced Academics Consortium (CTAAC). AS+K? About Suicide To Save A Life provides participants with an overview of the basic epidemiology of suicide and suicidal behavior, including risk and protective factors. CALM Training - Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) is a course offered as part of the Texas Suicide Prevention Collaborative. CALM addresses the "HOW" of suicide prevention, rather than the "WHY". This training demonstrates research that shows how reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. This training covers who needs lethal means counseling and how to work with people at risk for suicide - and their families - to reduce access. Opportunities to work through case scenarios and practice lethal means counseling will be provided.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (Virtual)
Join ESC Region 13 and the Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHAs) throughout the region for the virtual blended course of Youth Mental Health First Aid (from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing) to learn the basic knowledge and skills of identifying and supporting students through a mental health crisis. You will also learn about substance use prevention strategies and warning signs of a student struggling suicidal thoughts. This is a proactive course that is incredibly helpful for anyone who works with students of all ages! This course also meets the HB3 requirement for school districts.

Gifted and Talented Leadership Forum with CTAAC 2026-27
The Leadership Forum is an opportunity for Gifted/Talented and Advanced Academics leaders to connect and support each other virtually throughout the year. These one-hour open agenda sessions are a collaborative effort between the Region 13 Gifted and Talented Program Specialist and the Central Texas Advanced Academics Consortium (CTAAC). CTAAC is a district-led initiative created for the purpose of providing district-to-district support for the Gifted and Talented and Advanced Academics programs. This organization is currently led by Blake Haygood from Austin ISD. The organization meets a few times throughout the year to offer leaders the time and space to connect with each other and ask questions relevant to their program.
