New Principals Institute: Advancing School Mental Health, Session 3: Emotional Learning: Building and Generalizing Skills

This session helps building administrators understand how to best leverage Tier 1 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula to build necessary student skills. Participants become strong consumers of research into SEL curriculums to better understand what it means when companies claim they are evidence-based interventions. Practical approaches to SEL instruction focus on using data to understand student strengths and weaknesses and choosing content to fill learning gaps, plus coaching teachers to support generalization of SEL concepts through classroom schedules, routines, and in vivo coaching.
