LSGurdin Consulting BCBA Series: Transforming School Practices - Solutions for Shifting from Compliance to Engagement
An insightful session focused on helping school BCBAs shift teams away from traditional compliance-driven approaches to more collaborative and engagement-oriented strategies throughout the school day. Historically, behavioral programs have included interventions that evoke and reinforce compliance. However, this approach can cause distress, avoidance, and negative opinions of our field. The conversation has moved towards designing compassionate interventions that are assent-based, kind, and supportive, fostering an environment where students and staff actively engage with each other, enhancing motivation and participation in the learning process. The presentation reviews research on assent-based, compassionate interventions, discusses the challenges school BCBAs face during the transition from compliance to engagement-based behavior plans, and offers practical solutions to navigate these challenges. Offered in partnership with LSGurdin Consulting; BCBAs are eligible for 1.5 CEUs through LSGurdin Consulting.
