Science of Reading: How Reading Develops K-12
The Science of Reading is based on the Simple View of Reading model, which states that reading comprehension is the product of decoding and language comprehension. In this webinar, participants will explore how reading develops across kindergarten through grade 12, including how word recognition and language comprehension work together to support skilled reading. Participants will examine how instruction changes as texts become more complex and learn practical strategies to address reading gaps using the science of teaching reading. The session will also connect foundational skills such as oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding with vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and content area literacy in later grades. Participants will identify the 5 core pillars of the science of reading, describe how reading skills progress across K-12 with practical strategies to address reading gaps, explain how word recognition and language comprehension work together to support skilled reading, and examine how reading instruction changes as students engage with increasingly complex texts.

AI for Language and Literacy Instruction
As educators face increasing demands on their time, AI offers new opportunities to streamline routine tasks while enhancing teaching and learning. Artificial intelligence is transforming how educators support language development, literacy, and student engagement across learning environments. Whether you teach English Language Arts (ELA), English Language Development (ELD), dual-language immersion programs, world languages, or other language-learning courses, AI tools offer new opportunities to enhance instruction and personalize learning. In this webinar, participants will explore how AI tools can enhance student reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills; discover strategies for using AI to create instructional materials, scaffold language development, increase student engagement, and design differentiated learning experiences; and gain actionable strategies that can be applied across diverse language-learning contexts. Participants will identify practical AI tools that support language and literacy instruction across multilingual and language-learning settings, explore strategies for enhancing student engagement and language development through AI, apply AI tools to create personalized and differentiated learning experiences, and evaluate opportunities and considerations for integrating AI responsibly into classroom practice.
